Cybersecurity – What and Why?

Simply put, cybersecurity is the practice of protecting data or sensitive information from any person or attack other than the authorized person. According to IBM “Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting critical systems and sensitive information from digital attacks” and according to Cisco “Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks.”

Now the question is why I am or many of us talking about it or why should the whole world be concerned about it?

The answer is that security and safety should always be a top priority in any zone. Mankind invented lockers hundreds of years ago to keep important documents or belongings safe. We didn’t know what the term “virtual” meant back then. But we now live in a virtual world where we spend our entire day on our laptops or phone. We use technology in every aspect of our lives, from setting the alarm to reading the last page before bed. We use our smartphones and computers to bank, shop, read, work, watch movies, study, share ideas, write, and do nearly everything else. Almost all of these devices and online platforms know everything there is to know about us. They have our personal information, bank information, the name of our dog, and even our address.

As a result, the mentioned points deserve more protection than anything else. Here comes cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is more than just a buzzword; it is a lifeline for this generation, and it will be required as long as technology exists.

Now let’s talk about what includes in cybersecurity!

Cybersecurity includes almost any system, including computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from any malicious or virus attacks. Whereas information security includes cybersecurity, cybersecurity includes network security.

Our Next topic and first official topic of this journey will be CIA Triad along with some basic cybersecurity principles. Thank you for your time. Any advice and suggestion are welcome.
